About
Sjaelv Studio creates minimal, timeless leather goods built to last.
Each piece is carefully designed, hand-cut, and handcrafted from natural, vegetable-tanned leather in my Hamburg studio. Over time, the leather softens, darkens, and develops a patina, carrying the stories of everyday life.

Mission
I believe in creating beautiful, sustainably made products that are designed to last for many years.
In a fast-moving world of overconsumption, I want to create pieces that stand for permanence, quality, and longevity. Objects that stay. Objects that are worth keeping.
I focus on fewer, well-considered pieces that are versatile and built to endure. Rather than constantly creating more, I design a small, intentional collection that fits naturally into everyday life. I work exclusively with durable, vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Italy and craft each piece by hand in Germany, ensuring responsible materials and ethical production.
Through thoughtful design and true craftsmanship, I hope to encourage a more mindful way of consuming — choosing fewer, better things and valuing the story, the work, and the lifetime of a product.

Behind the studio
Hi, I’m Johanna, founder and designer of Sjaelv Studio.
From my small atelier in Hamburg, I craft every bag and accessory by hand — from the first sketch to the final stitch. Working with natural, vegetable-tanned leather, I’m fascinated by how the material evolves and develops its own character over time.
What began as curiosity grew into a craft and eventually into my studio. Today, my work is guided by simplicity, careful construction, and respect for the material.
Each piece is made slowly and thoughtfully — created to be used and kept for many years.
